He is a bestselling and multi award-winning author/illustrator of children’s books. He was the official World Book Day Illustrator between 2019 and 2021

His first picture book, Blown Away, was published in 2014 and was only the second illustrated book in history to win the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. It was read as a CBeebies Bedtime Story by Mark Bonnar in 2017. His second book, GRRRRR!, was nominated for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and was read as a CBeebies Bedtime Story by Chris Kamara in 2019. His third, Odd Dog Out, was nominated for a total of eight literary prizes, winning the BSC Festival of Literature Picture Book Award and the UKLA Student Shadower’s Vote Book Award. It was read as a CBeebies Bedtime Story by Tom Hardy in 2017. His fourth, Sunk!, was nominated for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and shortlisted for The People's Book Award and Oscar's Book Prize. His fifth, Kevin, was nominated for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and shortlisted for the BSC Festival of Literature Picture Book Award and the IBW Book Award. His sixth (Happy Hatchday), seventh (Give Peas a Chance) and eighth (Wide Awake) books are the first three in the Dinosaur Juniors series. Happy Hatchday was awarded a GOLD Junior Design Award in 2018 and Give Peas a Chance was nominated for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal in 2019. His ninth picture book, Show and Tell, was published by HarperCollins in August 2019 and won the 2020 Sheffield Children’s Book Award. It was read as a CBeebies Bedtime Story by Rick Astley in 2019. His tenth picture book, Dog Gone, was published in September 2020 and his eleventh, An Odd Dog Christmas, published in October 2021, was read by Tom Hardy as the 2021 Christmas Eve Bedtime Story on CBeebies. His twelfth picture book, The Blue-footed Booby, was published in August 2022 and has been nominated for the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Illustration 2023. His thirteenth picture book, Gigantic, was published in September 2023 and is the winner of the FCBG Children’s Book Award for Younger Readers and the Sheffield Children’s Book Award for Picture Books. Rob was chosen as one of the official World Book Day authors in 2024, and his book Charlie McGrew & the Horse The He Drew became an immediate Sunday Times bestseller upon its release in February of that year. His fifteenth picture book, I Follow the Fox, was published in October 2024 to critical acclaim.

Rob’s first middle-grade novel, Peanut Jones and the Illustrated City was published by Pan Macmillan in September 2021 to critical acclaim. The second installment of the trilogy, Peanut Jones and the Twelve Portals, was published in September 2022 and was awarded Cover of the Year 2023 at The Week Junior Book Awards, and the third, Peanut Jones and the End of the Rainbow, was published in September 2023. All three novels are number one bestsellers.

As well as working on his own books he also illustrates for other authors including Michael Bond (of Paddington fame), Jeff Brown (the Flat Stanley series), Philip Ardagh, Piers Torday, Jenny Pearson, Garth Jennings, Jess Butterworth, SE Durrant, Christian O'Connell and Barry Hutchison. Rob was the official World Book Day Illustrator for 2019, 2020 and 2021.

In March 2020 he started #DrawWithRob, a series of twice-weekly draw-along videos designed to help parents whose children were forced to stay home from school due to the coronavirus pandemic. It proved immensely popular, garnering millions of views and international media coverage. It has been used as a learning resource by thousands of families across the globe. On 21 May 2020 he broke the Guinness World Record for the largest ever online art class when 45,611 households tuned in to his live #DrawWithRob YouTube class, and in July 2020 he was named as a Point of Light by the Prime Minister, an award that recognises outstanding individuals who are affecting change in their community. The first #DrawWithRob activity book was published in July 2020, is a Sunday Times number one bestseller and won the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Award 2020. It was also shortlisted for Children’s Illustrated & Non-Fiction Book of the Year at the 2021 British Book Awards. Draw With Rob at Christmas was published in October 2020, Draw With Rob: Build A Story in March 2021, Draw With Rob: Monster Madness in July 2021, Draw With Rob: Amazing Animals in February 2022, Draw With Rob at Halloween in September 2022, Draw With Rob In Space in August 2023, and Draw With Rob: Festive Fun in October 2024. All seven are also number one bestsellers. In July 2023, the first in a new series of My First Draw With Rob books for pre-school children was published. My First Draw With Rob: Dinosaurs features simple puzzles, colouring, fun drawalongs and lots more to help stimulate young artists’ creativity. My First Draw With Rob: Unicorns, the second in the series, was published in May 2024.

Before he became a full-time author/illustrator he was the art director of the Observer Magazine, NME, SKY and Just Seventeen. He lives in London with his wife and three daughters and hasn't given up hope that, maybe, one of them will go to an Arsenal match with him one day.
